An update on what we have done in the past few weeks.

It has been a big few weeks with significant announcements and landmark legislation passed by the Parliament.

The Federal Government has announced an additional $40 million in infrastructure funding for south west Sydney.

This funding is in addition to the more than $500 million the Albanese Government is investing in south west Sydney infrastructure.

This additional funding will ensure that south west Sydney has the infrastructure our growing communities deserve.

The Albanese Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting our environment and acting on climate change.

We passed legislation to deliver the Murray-Darling Basin plan, ensuring a healthy and sustainable future for Australia’s largest river system.

Last week the Bill to establish a nature repair market passed Parliament. This will make it easier for farmers and First Nations groups to improve our environment and get paid for it.

We are expanding the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) which will increase Australia’s use of renewable energy and ensure a reliable energy grid for Australians.

The Albanese Government has also passed the Closing Loopholes Bill to improve conditions for workers.

This Bill criminalises industrial manslaughter and wage theft, stop the underpayment of workers through labour hire loopholes and better support our emergency service workers suffering PTSD.

This year has been the first full year of an Albanese Labor Government and we have continued to confront the challenges Australians are facing.

This year the Albanese Government has:

  • Reduced the PBS co-pay to $30, saving Australians $200 million on almost 18 million prescriptions.

  • Delivered cheaper childcare, saving families, on average, 14 per cent per hour per child for centre-based day care.

  • Tripled the bulk-billing incentive to help 11 million people see a doctor for free.

  • Implemented the first tranche of our 60-day prescription policy.

  • Delivered the largest increase in rent assistance in 30 years.

  • Increased social security payments and expanded the Single Parent Payment.

  • Delivered the $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator to build more social housing for Australians.

  • Continued to deliver up to $500 in energy price relief to eligible Australian households.

There is still more to do.

I will continue to work hard on your behalf to ensure the Albanese Labor Government delivers better outcomes for our community in 2024.
