Threatened Species Day |
|
To mark Threatened Species Day, Parliament House welcomed some of Australia’s most unique fauna.
The Albanese Government is committed to protecting our precious native plants and animals by ensuring that Australia stops the decline of our environment and actively repairs nature.
Here are just five things that the Albanese Government is doing to protect our unique flora and fauna: Setting a goal of zero new extinctions Investing over $500 million to better protect threatened plants and animals and to tackle invasive species Setting a target of protecting and conserving at least 30% of Australia’s land and 30% of our oceans by 2030 Cleaning up our urban rivers and waterways Tripling the size of the Macquarie Island Marine Park

Women’s Health Week |
|
I joined the Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, the Hon Ged Kearny MP, and several of my colleagues for the launch of the new survey on women’s health and women’s access to health care.
The survey will help to better inform the government on how to best ensure women are believed and better treated in our health system.
The survey can be completed in up to 17 different languages and I encourage all women to take part. |

Housing Australia Future Fund |
|
The Albanese Government is set to deliver on its election commitment to establish the Housing Australia Future Fund and deliver the largest single investment in social and affordable housing in more than a decade.
The $10 billion fund will ensure secure and ongoing funding for social and affordable housing across Australia, delivering 30,000 new homes in the fund’s first 5 years.
In addition to the fund, the Albanese Government has recently announced an additional $1 billion investment in the National Housing and Infrastructure Facility to support new homes. |

Increase In Income Support Payments And Pensions |
|
From 20 September, over 5.5 million Australians will receive an increase to their income support payments and pensions.
The indexation will be in addition to the increases outlined in the Albanese Government’s $14.6 billion cost of living package and are part of our Government’s commitment to help Australians who are doing it tough.

Closing Loopholes To Protect Workers |
|
The Albanese Government has introduced legislation to close the loopholes that are undermining the conditions and wages of workers.
These changes will deliver on the promises we took to the last election and will include: Criminalising wage theft Introducing minimum standards for workers in the gig economy and the road transport industry Properly defining casual work Closing the labour hire loophole And increasing work health and safety penalties and including an industrial manslaughter offence.
Unfortunately, the Coalition have teamed up with One Nation to delay the bill in the Senate. They spent their entire time in government keeping wages low and they continue to vote against the interests of workers. |
