ANNE STANLEY MP
OPPOSITION WHIP
MEMBER FOR WERRIWA
IT’S TIME TO ACT ON AGED CARE
The Federal Member for Werriwa, Anne Stanley MP, has today called on the Morrison Liberal Government to act on aged care concerns, launching an online petition for all people in Werriwa affected by this crisis.
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety’s interim report this week laid bare the disturbing state of Australia’s aged care system.
“There is not one part of Australia’s aged care system that isn’t impacted by this crisis,”
Ms Stanley said.
“While Labor is prepared to work constructively with the Morrison Liberal Government to progress long-term reform challenges, three action areas have been highlighted by the Royal Commission to start fixing Australia’s broken aged care system:
- Ensuring older Australians are getting the care at home when they need it most.
- End the over-reliance of chemical restraints in aged care.
- Creating alternatives for young people entering residential aged care.
“I will not wait until the final report of the Royal Commission in November next year for action on aged care,” Ms Stanley said.
“120,000 older Australians are waiting for care at home and waiting times for the highest levels of care have recently blown out to nearly two years.”
“It also includes the older Australians in residential aged care facilities who are not getting the high quality care they deserve in a wealthy country like Australia.
“The Liberal Government has been asleep at the wheel for six years, with four Ministers and billions ripped out while Australia’s aged care system has lurched from one crisis to another.
“It’s time to stand up for our loved ones and fix this system that’s in crisis.
“The Morrison Liberal Government cannot ignore the crisis any longer and must act now,” she said.
