Anne Stanley MP the Federal Member for Werriwa on Tuesday 20 March visited the Liverpool Women’s Resource Centre with the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Women, the Honourable Tanya Plibersek MP.
Ms Stanley invited Ms Plibersek to the Liverpool Women’s Resource Centre following a recent visit to the centre on International Women’s Day.
“The work done by the Liverpool Women’s Resource Centre is extremely important,” Ms Stanley said.
“It is inspiring to see a group so dedicated to assisting the most vulnerable. This centre is an essential resource for our locals, too often acting as a last resort for women in crisis. As a safe space, it also acts as focal point for a vibrant and tight-knit community that make a vital contribution to the social fabric of our area.”
Ms Plibersek and Ms Stanley spoke with staff and stakeholders about the most pressing issues facing women and support services in the area including greater reporting of domestic violence, availability and access to emergency housing for women in crisis, particularly those on their own, and the pressure that places onstaff and services who are already strained, with very limited resources.
The Liverpool Women’s Resource Centre has operated since 1984, providing support, group programs, projects and counselling to women throughout the South West.
