AUSTRALIA NEEDS AN ANTI-CORRUTPION COMMISSION
Anne Stanley, Member for Werriwa, has called on the Federal Government to immediately take steps to implement a National Anti-Corruption Commission.
This week it was revealed that the Former Attorney General, Christian Porter, paid part of his legal fees with a blind trust, spurring debate on who was funding the Ministers discontinued defamation case against the ABC, a publicly funded entity.
“With every week that goes by, there is another reason why a Federal Anti-Corruption Commission is sorely needed.” Ms Stanley said.
“Public trust in the Government is one of the important pillars of a healthy democracy.
“Transparency about donations such as this are important, especially if you are a Minister of the Crown.
“Over 1000 days have passed since Scott Morrison promised a national integrity commission, and that is 1000 days where there has been no oversight or process, with awarding money for all manner of grants and now this revelation about a donation.
“A Labor Government will put an end to the inaction of the Morrison Government’s to restore trust in Government, by establishing a powerful, transparent and independent National Anti-Corruption Commission.” Ms Stanley said.
