ANNE STANLEY MP
OPPOSITION WHIP
MEMBER FOR WERRIWA
MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT
Anne Stanley, Member for Werriwa, has this week spoken in Federal Parliament on the escalation of violence and the subsequent ceasefire in the Middle East.
“I am deeply concerned by the violence in Gaza, Jerusalem and across Palestine and Israel.
“The use of banned weapons and tear gas and guns fired at worshipers at one of Islam’s holiest sites in the holiest month of the year is unsettling.
“There is no justification against rocket attacks on civilians and there is no justification for using internationally banned weapons.
“I welcome the ceasefire between the two parties and will always endorse every call for de-escalation and a return to calm.” Ms Stanley said.
“I stand with Labor and Foreign Minister Payne in their calls for a halt in actions that escalate tensions between Israel and Palestine including land appropriations, forced evictions, demolitions, and settlement activity.
“We are a nation that has a role in the pathway to peace and we should not stand silent.
“Labor will always support the rights of Israelis and Palestinians to live within secure and recognised borders.
“I hope the incitement of hate and the cycle of tension, escalation and destruction comes to an end and my thoughts are with the Palestinian and Israeli people during this time.” Ms Stanley said.
