SOUTH WEST SYDNEY BUSINESSES NEED JOBKEEPER SUPPORT NOW
Anne Stanley, Member for Werriwa, has called on the Federal Government to reintroduce JobKeeper in South-West Sydney as COVID-19 cases continue to surge.
Earlier this week the NSW Government released Public Health Orders stating residents in Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown and Liverpool LGAs should not to leave their council area until July 30.
The NSW Government has announced a COVID-19 Disaster Payment of $600 per week, well below the minimum wage.
“It is painfully clear that the lock down of the three local governments areas means that residents and businesses in South-West Sydney need monetary support, to pay the rent, get groceries and pay their workers.
“I call on the Federal and NSW State Government to fix this situation today.
Criteria for the payment does not include casual workers who receive some support such as JobSeeker, Abstudy and youth allowance.
“Many are not entitled to the existing support and for those who are, it does little to assist.
“My community deserves much better.
“This is a stressful time for everyone. The last thing people need is confusing messages about who is and isn’t able to work and who needs to get tested and when.
“My community needs more support and they need it now.” Ms Stanley said.
