MEMBER FOR WERRIWA
SYDNEY RESIDENTS NEED SUPPORT
Anne Stanley, Member for Werriwa, has called on the NSW State and Federal Government to support the businesses in Sydney as the COVID-19 cases surge.
JobKeeper ended on 28 March leaving thousands of businesses without support if another outbreak, and subsequent lockdown, were to occur.
“After the withdrawal of JobKeeper at the end of March, vital support for thousands of businesses went with it.
“Now due to the lack of foresight from the Federal Government there is a lack of support for businesses and families struggling through this outbreak.
“I call on the State and Federal Government to provide financial support for workers and businesses, rent relief for families and a clear road map to give families and business certainty,” Ms Stanley said.
Ms Stanley believes more certainty to businesses and workers will aid testing numbers in the region.
“During the Victorian lockdown, the State Government provided an allowance for workers to be tested and isolate. It was the key to improving testing numbers and health outcomes.
“The last thing I want to see is business owners and workers feeling they can’t afford to take a day or two off work to get tested. People need certainty that they’ll be able to put food on the table and keep a roof over their family’s head if they have to isolate” Ms Stanley said.
