Anne Stanley MP, the Federal Member for Werriwa, has backed calls by Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development Anthony Albanese for the Federal Government to announce a passenger rail network connecting to the new Western Sydney Airport.
Ms Stanley believes this should be operating from the day the Airport opens.
“In Question Time yesterday, I asked Urban Infrastructure Minister Paul Fletcher to commit to having a train line ready to go for when the Airport is open,” Ms Stanley said.
“He still refuses to do this.”
Labor has committed to extending the South-West rail link from Leppington via Bringelly to the new airport.
“The longer we delay this the more difficult it will become,” Ms Stanley said.
“It needs to happen, and it needs to happen before the Airport is open, if this project is going to be a success in any way.
“If done properly, the Western Sydney Airport could bring great investment and opportunity to the people of Western Sydney.
“If not, we will have an enormous white elephant foisted upon us.
“If the people of Western Sydney are to benefit, the Airport must be connected to the passenger rail system.”
