South West Testing
The Delta variant has swept through Australia causing lockdowns in almost every state in the last month. Greater Sydney has been in lockdown for almost three weeks, with at least a further two-weeks lockdown ahead.
On Friday 16 July, there were 75 people admitted to hospital and 18 in ICU, some of whom are under 25. Dispelling the belief this is only an old person's illness. COVID-19, and the delta variant especially, cannot be approached half-heartedly.
Unfortunately, in recent weeks, our region has been hard hit by the virus. Unlike other parts of Sydney, greater restrictions have been imposed on our residents and fingers are pointed at South-West Sydney.
The announcement of the need to be tested every three days for Fairfield residents saw our community waiting in the testing line for more than five hours. But what happens if you don't have a car or are a one car family?
It is unreasonable to have wait this long to be tested after working a twelve-hour shift and then try to juggle your family responsibilities. Extra 24 hours testing clinics should assist.
Our community has proven time and again they will do what is required to keep each other safe. The Government must also step up and provide the necessary resources.
Please call the National Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 020 080 if you have questions or queries with anything related to COVID-19.
