Budget 2026-27 Edition

Earlier this week, we delivered this year’s Budget, and I wanted to break it down for you.

This Budget is an important one – delivering more tax cuts, a fair go at buying your own home, and strengthening Medicare for all.

I know things are tough for many people right now, as conflict overseas pushes up prices here at home. We’ve already done a lot of work to help ease the pressure on people in Werriwa, and with this Budget, we’re taking the next steps.

Here in Werriwa, we are adding $300 Million for infrastructure, to improve Fifteenth Avenue and Elizabeth Drive.

This means an additional $200 million for Fifteenth Avenue, to build on the $1 Billion already delivered and continue the work that we've already started, and another $100 million to help upgrade Elizabeth Drive as Western Sydney International Airport opens later this year.

We’re delivering more tax cuts from 1 July this year for every Australian taxpayer to help with the cost of living.

• More tax cuts rolling out now.

• An extra $250 off working Australians’ tax bills permanently.

• A $1000 instant tax deduction without receipts.

All of this means the average worker will benefit by nearly $3000. And that’s on top of cutting fuel taxes to save you money when you fill up.

We’re strengthening Medicare, so you can get the care you need without worrying about the cost.

A sudden fever or unexpected injury can turn into bills you weren’t ready for.

That’s why we’re making free Urgent Care Clinics a permanent part of Medicare, delivering a record boost to public hospitals, and making more life-changing medicines cheaper.

The Austral Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is now open from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week at 8 Landaise Rd, Austral, joining the network of clinics in Liverpool, Campbelltown and Fairfield.

We’re also levelling the playing field for first home buyers with a fairer tax system.

When you work hard and save, you should be able to buy your own home.

But right now, first home buyers are being priced out by property investors with tax breaks on their side. That’s why we’re reforming negative gearing and capital gains tax.

The other big focus is making sure that, in an uncertain world, Australia is prepared for what comes next.

That's why we're investing in more fuel and taking action to build a more resilient economy.

I will continue to update you with further detail about what these changes mean for you.

Yours sincerely,
