Join Harmony Week Celebrations in Werriwa
Residents in Werriwa will come together this Harmony Week to celebrate that in Australia, everyone belongs.
Member for Werriwa, Ms Anne Stanley MP, said there are many ways people in Werriwa can join in and participate in celebrations of our vibrant multicultural community during Harmony Week.
“Harmony Week is a great opportunity to celebrate our successful multicultural society and reflect on how we can continue to foster a sense of belonging for everyone.”
Ms Stanley MP said that Werriwa was made up of people from many backgrounds with 66% of households using a non-English speaking language.
“We have different backgrounds and life stories, but our community is stronger because of it. We are united by our shared values of freedom, respect, fairness, and equality.
“And while it’s great to celebrate Harmony Week each year, we should always embrace the spirit of inclusiveness, respect and belonging,” Ms Stanley MP said.
The success of Harmony week is thanks to all the schools, workplaces, community groups and sporting clubs that organize and host morning teas, festivals and other events. These events bring the community together to share the message that everyone belongs, and help everyone be a part of Harmony week.
“I encourage individuals and community groups to join in with Harmony Week celebrations, whether it’s hosting an event or learning more about the stories of others in our community. Wear something orange, the official colour of Harmony Week, and show your support,” Ms Stanley MP said.
