Over $230 Million In Unclaimed Medicare Benefits
The Albanese Labor Government is urging Australians to check their bank account details are up to date with Medicare, as $234 million worth of Medicare benefits remain unpaid.
The share of unpaid benefits belong to close to one million Australians who don’t have valid bank details registered with Medicare.
Young people aged 18-24 are missing out the most, with more than 220,000 people owed over $49 million. While the benefit amounts vary, the average owed is $240.
Australians can quickly and easily update their bank details through the myGov app, or by using their Medicare online account through my.gov.au.
Over 690,000 Australians who have an active myGov account will also receive a notification informing them of any unclaimed Medicare benefits.
There are also close to 300,000 people however without a myGov account who are owed money.
Australians who need additional support with online services can also use digital coaching, which is available at any Services Australia o.
It’s important to be aware of any scam calls, text messages or emails as Services Australia will never ask you to open a link in a text message.
The only secure way to log into your myGov account is through www.my.gov.au or the myGov app.
Quotes attributable to the Member for Werriwa, Ms Anne Stanley MP:
“With almost 300,000 unclaimed benefits in NSW alone, many in our community could be missing out on money that they are owed.”
“I encourage members of our community to check that their bank details are up-to-date with Medicare and the easiest way to do this is through the myGov website or app.”
