Pledge To Drive So Others Survive This National Road Safety Week
The Australian Government is encouraging all road users to make safer choices this National Road Safety Week.
Now in its 10th year, the annual event highlights the impact of road trauma and ways everyone can play a part in reducing it.
The Government has contributed $100,000 to support the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group to coordinate National Road Safety Week through the Road Safety Awareness and Enablers Fund.
In the twelve months to April 2023, 1,204 people tragically lost their lives on Australia’s roads.
The Australian Government remains committed to Vision Zero – zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads by 2050.
Our 2023–24 Budget delivered $43.6 million to establish the National Road Safety Action Grants Program. This grant program will support community education and awareness, First Nations road safety, vulnerable road users, technology, innovation and research.
Additionally, the Government is investing $16.5 million in the Car Safety Ratings Program to improve testing protocols for new light vehicles and provide safety evaluations for used vehicles.

Quotes attributable to Member for Werriwa, Ms Anne Stanley MP:
“I encourage road users to take the time this week, and every week, to consider how their behaviours and choices may impact others, as well as themselves.
“Before you pick up your phone, choose not to clip in your seat belt, have a few drinks and get behind the wheel, or drive dangerously – remember the people you will be leaving to grieve because of the choice you made.
“More than 1,200 Australians have tragically lost their lives on our roads in the 12 months to April this year – a devastating toll that we all need to work together to reduce.”
