State of the Environment Report
This week the new Minister for Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek, released the State of the Environment report. The previous government received the report Christmas 2021 and chose not to release the information.
The report details the confronting challenges facing our environment and outlines a story of neglect and decline of our beautiful and unique ecosystem. Scientists and Environmental experts have been, and continue to, warn us about the devastating consequences of climate change and our lack of care for the environment.
“Under an Albanese government, the environment is back – front and centre. No longer is it a secondary concern, it is a major challenge that we must confront in order to leave behind our unique environment for the next generations” said Ms. Stanley said.
“An Albanese government will act, ensuring we have a proper 2030 emissions reduction target of 43%, guaranteeing that 30% of land and 30% of oceans are protected, and establishing a strong and independent Environmental Protection Agency.”
Protecting the environment has always been a Labor legacy, from creating the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, establishing Landcare to protecting our great natural assets from the Daintree Rainforest in our North to the Tasmanian World Heritage Area in our South.
We will build on this legacy.
