SYDNEY TRANSPORT CHAOS AS EDMONDSON PARK STILL IGNORED
Sydney has the worst average commute in the nation, according to the the latest Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey results.
The average Sydney commute to and from work is now 71 minutes, an increase of over 17% between 2002 and 2017.
Anne Stanley, Opposition Whip and Federal Member for Werriwa, said “this confirms exactly what people have been telling me and what I have experienced myself. People are spending longer hours between home and work as Sydney’s roads become car parks and Sydney’s trains suffer more delays.”
Ms Stanley pointed out that the NSW Liberals reneged on a pre-election commitment to fund an expansion of car parking spaces at Edmondson Park station.
“The failure of the Liberals to deliver on their election promise at Edmondson Park is forcing the people of Werriwa into far longer commutes, greater inconvenience and filling up carparks in bordering areas such as Glenfield and Holsworthy, inconveniencing those commuters as well.”
“The NSW Liberal Government has known about this for years. The Premier and the Transport Minister have taken no action to help commuters, despite committing $40m before the State election for expanding the car park.
“I’ve invited the Premier, the Minister for Transport and the Member for Holsworthy to see Edmondson Park station on a weekday morning, but so far there has been no response and no action.“Commutes are getting longer, traffic is getting worse, more tolls on our roads and the trains are running later and later.
“The message is clear. The Greater Sydney Commission and now the HILDA survey results confirm that the State Government has no clear vision for Western Sydney and will continue to ignore it in favour of their Liberal mates on the right side of the latte line.”
