Universal Paid Leave for Family and Domestic Violence
This morning the Hon. Tony Burke introduced a bill that will provide 11 million more workers with paid family and domestic violence leave. The Albanese Government is committed to helping those who need to escape violence. This means workers will not have to choose between their safety and their job.
“This reform is long overdue, and I am proud to be part of a government that is finally legislating paid family and domestic violence leave” said Ms Anne Stanley.
This leave extends to all workers including those employed in casual work. This reform is vital as those who experience domestic violence are more likely to be employed casually.
“One woman dies every ten days due to family and domestic violence; our government is committed to doing everything we can to reduce this number and this is one step we can take”.
This will commence on 1 February 2023 and small businesses will have an additional 6 months to adjust meaning all workers will be entitled to paid family and domestic violence leave by August 2023.
Under an Albanese Labor Government no one will be left behind.
